Samosa Pie.

This samosa pie is an adaption of the indian dumplings which are called "samosa". Samosa is a fried appetizer / snack you can buy at many street stalls around Asia.  But this pie version is healthier as it's not deep-fried. It has a spicy vegetable and meat filling but instead of frying the dumplings I just used  puff pastry to cover the filling. It's soooo deliciously easy!

Preparation. 20 min.
Cooking. 60 min.
Serves 4.

You need.

20g butter

1 onion

3 small chilis, seeds removed and finely chopped

3 garlic cloves, finely chopped

350g minced meat*

2 tbsp Garam Masala

1/2 tsp turmeric

1 1/2 tsp salt

680g potatoes

2.5 dl water

140g peas (frozen or fresh)

20g fresh cilantro, finely chopped

1 puff pastry (approx. in the size of your baking dish)

Instructions.

Melt butter in a big pan over medium heat. Add the chopped onions and sauté till golden and soft, approx. 5 min.

Add the chilis and garlic and keep cooking for about another minute.
Minced meat and spices (garam masala, turmeric & salt) can be added now. Cook the meat until it's not red / pink anymore.

Now add the peeled and chopped potatoes and the water, cover the pan, and let it simmer till the potatoes are cooked through, approx. 25 min. Stir in between.

Mix in the peas and cilantro.

Preheat oven to 205°C.

Place the filling into a baking dish (square shaped**) and spread evenly.

Cover the filling with the puff pastry (cut to size if necessary***)  With a knife you can cut some air vents into the dough.

Place the baking dish into the preheated oven for about 25 min or until the puff pastry turns into a nice golden colour.

Notes.

* minced meat: beef, pork or chicken.

** or any other dish with an approx. 2 L holding capacity.

*** My puff pastry was a litte too big for my baking dish. So I cut the left-overs into small stripes, put them on a baking tray and sprinkled the stripes with some salt and spices. Then I put them in the oven with the samosa pie for a few minutes (until golden).

And thats how you get an appetizer out of the same dish :) I was very glad to have them, as I was already quite hungry and couldn't wait for the pie to finish!

Enjoy.
